Over a hundred years ago, Americans across the country stood up for that rights that they believed the working class should receive. Everyone knew that working conditions weren't the best, yet no one took action until 146 workers were killed solely due to the poor working conditions that the employees faced. In 2012, everyone knows of the horrible working conditions that are occurring every day in countries such as China or Malaysia; however, people choose to turn a blind eye to them. The legacy of the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire is especially prevalent today as outsourcing jobs to lower-wage countries is becoming an increasingly popular practice to U.S. businesses looking to reduce operating costs. A Boston-based consultancy called Forrester estimates that 12,000-15,000 jobs have been outsourced every month since 2000, leaving roughly 1,720,000 to 2,160,000 jobs that don’t get the same benefits that workers in America do. I think that if people applied what we learned in 1911 today, we would see working conditions significantly improve for workers around the world before another atrocity occurs.
